Thomas Holt, son of Benjamin Holt of the Township of
Horsham, in the County of
Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania, and Sarah Morgan, daughter of
Enoch Morgan of
Gwynedd Township, in the county aforesaid, having declared
their intentions of
marriage with each other before several Monthly Meetings of
the People called
Quakers, held at Gwynedd in said county, according to the
good order used
amongst them, and having consent of parents and parties
concerned, their said
proposals of marriage was allowed of by the said meetings.
Now these are to
certify whom it may concern, that for the full accomplishing
of their said
intentions, this thirteenth day of the second month, in the
year of our Lord,
one thousand seven hundred and eighty-one, the said Thomas
Holt and Sarah
Morgan appeared in a meeting of the said people appointed
for that purpose, at their
meetinghouse held at Gwynedd foresaid, and they, the Thomas
Holt takes said
Sarah Morgan by the hand, did in solemn manner openly
declare that he took her,
the said Sarah Morgan, to be his wife, promising through
divine assistance to
be unto her a faithful and loving husband until death should
separate them. And,
there in the same assembly, she, the said Sarah Morgan, also
declared that she
took him, the said Thomas Holt, to be her husband promising
through divine
assistance to be unto him a loving and faithful wife until
death should
separate them. And, moreover, they, the said Thomas Holt and
Sarah Morgan, she,
according to the custom of marriage affirmed to these
present, set their hands.
And, we whose names are also underwritten, being present at
the solemnization
of the said marriage and subscription have as witnesses
thereunto, set our

Edward Roberts, son of Robert Roberts of Gwynedd, in ye
County of Philadelphia,
Province of Pennsylvania, and Ellin (Ellen) Lewis, daughter
of Enos Lewis of
the same place, having declared their intentions of marriage
with each other
before several Monthly Meetings of ye People called Quakers
held in Gwynedd,
aforesaid according to the good used amongst them and having
consent of parents
and parties concerned, their said proposals were allowed of
by the said
meetings. Now these are to certify all whom it may concern
that for the full
accomplishing of their said intentions this fourth day of ye
tenth month in the
year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and sixty-four,
they, the said
Edward Roberts and Ellin (Ellen) Lewis appeared in a meeting
appointed for that
purpose at their meetinghouse in Gwynedd aforesaid, and the
said Edward Roberts
taking ye said Ellin (Ellen) Lewis by the hand, did in
solemn manner openly
declare that he took her, ye said Ellin (Ellen) Lewis, to be
his wife,
promising with God's assistance to be unto her a loving and
faithful husband
until death should separate them. And then and there in ye
same assembly, she,
ye said Ellin (Ellen) Lewis, did also declare that she took
him, the said
Edward Roberts, to be her husband, promising likewise with
God's assistance to
be unto him a loving and faithful wife until death should
separate them. And,
moreover, they, the said Edward Roberts and Ellin (Ellen)
Lewis, she, according
to the custom of marriage, taking the name of her husband as
