At a monthly meeting held at Thomas Shackle’s house, the 9th day of the 2nd month, 1716 (previous entry on document specifies date: 12th day of the 12th month, 1715), John Haines, William Evans, Thomas Shackle, Joseph Hooper, and John Hooper is appointed to attend ye quarterly meeting to be held at Sallem (Salem) for Newton and Sallem (Salem) this present month.

At the said meeting, John Addamson and Ann Skuse presented their intentions of marriage with each other. The meeting appoints Thomas Stouks (Stokes) and Thomas Fronth (Troth) to make enquire concerning John Addamson’s clearance from others and of his conversation, and make report thereof to the next monthly meeting.

John Addomson

At a monthly meeting held at Newton, the 14th day of the 3rd month, 1716, the overseers being called over signifies they have no new matters to offer to the meeting. At the said meeting, John Addomson and Ann Skuse, the second time, presented their intentions of marriage with each other, and enquiries have been made concerning their clearance from others and of their conversation, and nothing appears against them. Therefore, the meeting consents to this, accomplishing thereof according to truths, orders and appoints Thomas Stouks (Stokes) and Samuell (Samuel) Lippancutt (Lippincott) to attend the said marriage for preserving good order.

At the said meeting, Francis Richeson (Richardson) and Sarah Cooper presented their intention of laboring each other in marriage. The meeting expects the said Francis to bring a certificate from the meeting at Philadelphia concerning his clearance from others and of his conversation.

At the said meeting, Thomas Robinson and Sarah Low (Lowe) presented their intentions of marriage with each other. The meeting appoints Thomas Shakle (Shackle) and Thomas Sharp to make enquiries concerning the said Thomas’ clearance from others and of his conversation, and make report thereof to the next monthly meeting.

At a monthly meeting held at Newton, the 13th day of ye 3rd month, 1717, the overseers, being enquired of, declare they have nothing to offer to the meeting at present.

Jn. Borton –

At the said meeting, John Borton, the second time, desired a certificate concerning his clearance from women have, as in respects to marriage, and of his conversation, and enquiries having been made and nothing appearing against him on either hand, therefore, the meeting orders him a certificate accordingly.

Geo. Nicholson –

At the said meeting, George Nicholson and Allis (Alice) Lord presented their intentions of marriage with each other. The meeting expects said George Nicholson to bring a certificate of recommendation from the monthly meeting at Chesterfield to our next monthly meeting.

Tho. Stouks (Stokes) and Jn. Adamson

At the said meeting, Thomas Stouks (Stokes) is desired and appointed to buy a cow and lend the said cow to John Addamson on behalf of said meeting.

Quarterly Meeting –

Friends appointed to attend the quarterly meeting at Sallom (Salem) are John Wood, John Ladd, John Borton, Richard Haines, William Hunt, and William Alberson (Albertson). The meeting adjourns to next usual time and place.

Tho. (Thomas) Stokes Bought a Cow for John Addamson

At a monthly meeting held at ye house of Thomas Stokes, the tenth day of ye fourth month, 1717, the particular members of ye preparative meetings belonging to this meeting, being inquired of, report that they have nothing at present to offer.

At our last meeting, Tho. (Thomas) Stokes was prepared and appointed to buy a cow to lend to John Addamson which accordingly, he hath done, which forth ye sum of three pounds. The upper meeting brought in cash, ye sum of one pound shilling. The meeting of Newton is prepared to send ye same sum as ye meeting of Woodbury Creek, two shillings to Tho. (Thomas) Stokes with all conversation spoke.

John Addamson

At a monthly meeting held at Thomas Shackel's (Shackle’s), ye11th day of ye10th month, 1721, the overseers being enquired of, one of the overseers of the upper meeting signifies that John Addamson seems to want some assistance from this meeting. Therefore, John Kay was desired to pay thirty shillings to Timothy Matlack for ye use of said John Addamson.

Carlisle Hains (Haines) and Sarah Matlack –

At said meeting, Carlile (Carlisle) Hains (Haines) and Sarah Matlack at this time presented their intention of marriage with each other. The Friend appointed to enquire concerning said Carlile (Carlisle) clearance from others on the account of marriage, and of his conversation, makes enquire that they have enquired accordingly, and find not anything to obstruct. Therefore, this meeting consents that they may take each other in marriage accordingly to the good order used amongst us, and appoints John Copperwhaite (Cowperthwaite) and Joseph Haritage (Heritage) to attend ye said marriage to see that it be accomplished orderly and that they return their answer to our next monthly meeting.

The meeting adjourns to usual time and place.

 

Two Epistles Read –

At a monthly meeting held at Newton, the 8th day of the 11the month, 1721, the overseers being enquired of signify no new business.

At said meeting, an epistle from the yearly meeting held in London was read, also, an epistle from our yearly meeting held at Philadelphia to our satisfaction.

Echail of the yearly meeting read –

At said meeting, the echail of the minutes of ye yearly meeting held at Philadelphia, 1721, was read.

John Addamson

At said meeting, John Kay signified that he had paid thirty shillings into the hands of Timothy Matlack, our Friend, to the desire of last monthly meeting for ye use of John Addamson.

Richard Matlack and Rebecca Haines –

At said meeting, Richard Matlack and Rebecca Hains (Haines), ye second time, signified their intentions of marriage with each other. The Friends appointed to enquire concerning himself on account they find not anything to obstruct. Therefore, consents that ye may take each other in marriage according to ye good order used amongst us, and appoints Samuel Lippincott and Jarvis Stockdel (Stockdale) to be present to see it orderly accomplished and that ye return their answer to our next monthly meeting.

At a monthly meeting held at Haddonfield, ye 14 day of ye 3rd month, 1722,overseers being enquired of signified no business by them.

Samuel Nicholson Married –

At said meeting, John Cowperthwaite reported that himself and Joseph Harritage (Heritage) was present at ye marriage of Samuel Nicholson and Sarah Burros (Burrough), and that it was accomplished orderly.

John Addamson

At said meeting, John Kay was desired to let John Addamson have nine bushels of rye upon this meeting’s account.

John Hains (Haines) and Hannah Wood –

At said meeting, John Hains (Haines) and Hannah Wood, the second time, presented their intentions of taking each other in marriage. The persons appointed to make enquiries concerning him, report that they find not anything to obstruct. Therefore, this meeting concedes that they may take each other in marriage according to the good order used amongst us, appoints John Sharp and Thomas Hooton to be present to see it orderly accomplished.

Quarterly meeting –

At said meeting, the Friends appointed to attend the quarterly meeting to be held at Salem next are Jarvis Stockdill (Stockdale), Samuel Lippincott, Thomas Hooton, Joseph Cooper, William Hunt, James Lord, and John Cooper.

Meeting of Ministers and Elders –

At said meeting, John Hains (Haines), Joseph Cooper, and John Cooper are appointed to attend the meeting of ministers and elders to be held at Burlington on the seventh day of this month.

The meeting adjourns to usual time and place.

J. Smith and J. Whiteall (Whitall) –

At a monthly meeting held at Haddonfield, the 10th day of the 11th month, 1725/6, the overseers being enquired to signify no business by them. At said meeting, Joseph Gibson reported that he was present at the marriage of James Smith and Jane Whiteall (Whitall) and that it was orderly accomplished as far as they saw.

J. Alberson (Albertson) and R. Hains (Haines) –

At said meeting, Isaac Alberson (Albertson) and Rachel Hains (Haines), the first time, declared their intention of taking each other in marriage. Therefore, this meeting appoints Benj. (Benjamin) Thackery (Thackara) and William Clark, Junior to make enquiry concerning said Isaac's clearance upon the account of marriage and of his conversation, and are desired to make their answer to our next monthly meeting.

J. Adamson Requests a Certificate –

At said meeting, Thomas Stokes requested that John Adamson might have a certificate, he being removed within the compass of Gwynedd Monthly Meeting in Pensil (Pennsylvania). Therefore, John and Timothy Matlack are appointed to make enquiry concerning said John’s conversation and make their answer to our next monthly meeting.

The business of this meeting being over adjourns to the mutual time and place.

At a monthly meeting held at Haddonfield, ye 12th month, 1725/6. At said meeting, John and Timothy Matlack reported concerning John Adamson that they find he hath been orderly and Jos. (Joseph) Cooper, Junior is to draw him a certificate.

I. (Isaac) Alberson (Albertson) and R. (Rachel) Hains (Haines) –

At said meeting, Isaac Alberson (Albertson) and Rachel Hains (Haines), ye second time, declared their intention of marriage with each other. After necessary enquiry, they are permitted according to ye good order used amongst Friends. Matlack is desired to be present to see it orderly performed and render an account to the next monthly meeting.

Jn. (John) Burrough and P. (Phoebe) Hains (Haines) –

At said meeting, John Burrough and Phebe (Phoebe) Hains (Haines), the first time, declared their intention of taking each other in marriage this meeting appoints Wm. (William) Matlack, Junior and John Cook to enquire concerning said Burrough's clearance upon the account of marriage and of his conversation and make report to our next monthly meeting.

Jos. (Joseph) Cooper a Certificate –

At said monthly meeting, Jos. (Joseph) Cooper requested on the behalf of his son Isaac, that he might have a certificate upon the account of marriage with a young woman belonging to Burlington Monthly Meeting. Therefore, this meeting appoints John Kay and John Mickle to make enquiry concerning said Isaac's clearance upon the account of marriage and of his conversation, and return an answer to our next monthly meeting.

The meeting adjourns to the usual time and place.

 

Isaac Alberson (Albertson) and R. Hains (Haines) –

At a monthly meeting held at Haddonfield, ye 14th day of ye 1st month, 1725/6, the overseers, being enquired of, signify at said meeting, John Matlack reported that himself and Thomas Stokes was present at ye marriage of Isaac Alberson (Albertson) and Rachel Hains (Haines) that it was orderly accomplished.

Jn. (John) Adamson’s Certificate –

At said meeting, Jos. (Joseph) Cooper, Junior produced a certificate on behalf of John Adamson which was approved of and signed accordingly.

I. (Isaac) Cooper's Certificate –

At said meeting, John Kay and John Mickle reported they had made enquiry concerning Isaac Cooper's clearance upon ye account of marriage and conversation, and do not find anything to obstruct in neither, and John Kay produced a certificate on his behalf which was approved of and signed accordingly.

Jn. (John) Burrough and P. (Phoebe) Hains (Haines) –

At said meeting, John Burrough and Phebe (Phoebe) Hains (Haines), ye second time, declared their intention of taking each other in marriage. This meeting, after enquiry, consents that they may take each other in marriage according to the good order used amongst Friends, and appoints Wm. (William) Evans and John Sharp to be present to see it orderly accomplished.

The persons appointed to attend the quarterly meeting next sixth day to be held at this place, are Samuel Lipponcott (Lippincott), Wm. (William) Matlack, Junior, Jos. (Joseph) Cooper, Jn. (John) Mickle, Ephraim Tomlinson, and Joshua Lord.

At a monthly meeting of women Friends held at Newton, ye 14th day of ye 3rd month, 1716, overseers report no business to offer to ye meeting. Jn. (John) Adamson and Ann Skuce signified ye continuation of their intentions of marriage. Ye return of inquiries being clear as to other engagements, so ye meeting permits them to accomplish their said marriage according to ye good order amongst Friends established. Mary Hains (Haines) and Eliz. (Elizabeth) Bradack (Braddock) is ordered to see good orders kept.

At said meeting, Francis Richardson and Sarah Cooper, ye first time, declared their intentions of marriage. Ye meeting appoints Mary Dole and Kathleen Sharp to make ye usual inquiry and report accordingly to next monthly meeting.

Also, at said meeting, Tho. (Thomas) Robson (Robinson) and Sarah Low (Lowe), ye first time, declared their intentions of marriage. Ye meeting appoints Lydia Cooper and Grace Zeans (Zane) to make ye usual inquiry and report accordingly to next monthly meeting.

No other business offering, ye meeting adjourns as usual.      

 

At a monthly meeting of women Friends, held at Tho. (Thomas) Shackle's, ye 11th day of ye 4th month, 1716, meetings being called over, ye overseers report no business to ye meeting. Francis Richardson and Sarah Cooper signified ye continuation of their intentions of marriage. Return of inquiries being clear, and Fra. (Francis) produced a certificate from Phila. (Philadelphia), so ye meeting consents to ye accomplishment of their said marriage according to ye good orders amongst Friends established. Mary Dole and Kathleen Sharp are appointed to see good orders kept.

Also, at said meeting, Tho. (Thomas) Robinson and Sarah Low (Lowe) signified ye continuation of their intentions of marriage. Ye return of inquiries being clear, and satisfaction being given for them hath been mentioned in ye minutes of ye 3rd month, 1712, so ye meeting consenteth to ye accomplishment of their said marriage according to ye good order amongst Friends established. Alles (Alice) Shackle and Grace Zeans (Zane) are appointed to see good order at said marriage. Wm. (William) Sharp and Mary Austin, ye first time, declared their intentions of marriage. Ye meeting appoints Agness (Agnes) Hollinshead (Hollingshead) and Hope Lippincot (Lippincott) to make ye usual inquiry and report accordingly to next monthly meeting.

Ye meeting appoints Lydia Cooper, Eliz. (Elizabeth) Kaighin (Kaighn) and Hannah Wood to attend ye quarterly meeting to be held at Salem on the 13th. No other business appearing, ye meeting adjourns as usual.

 

At a monthly meeting of women Friends held at Newton, ye 9th day of ye 5th month, 1716, our Friend, E. (Elizabeth) Estaugh, being returned from England, ye meeting requests her to accept ye book again, which she complied, and ye service of ye quarterly meeting was answered by ye persons appointed. Overseers of Newton and Woodbury report no business to offer to ye meeting.

At said meeting, Wm. (William) Sharp and Mary Austin signified ye continuation of their intentions of marriage, consent of parents and return of inquiries clear, so ye meeting consents to ye accomplishment of their said marriage according to ye good order amongst Friends established. Eliz. (Elizabeth Evins (Evans) and Eliz. (Elizabeth) Troth are appointed to see good orders kept, and no other business appearing, this meeting adjourns as usual.
